Kilkenny and Tipperary hurlers were inseparable at the end of today’s All Ireland Hurling Final at Croke Park on a score of 3-22 to 1-28.
In this enthralling encounter, the sides were level numerous times but Kilkenny seemed to be getting the upper hand, leading by four points with just minutes to go. But Tipperary eliminated the deficit with points from Seamus Callanan, Paddy Stapleton sub Jason Forde and John O’Dwyer.
In a dramatic finish in the dying seconds of the game John O’Dwyer launched from 97 metres out. It took Hawk Eye to determine that his effort was inches wide, leaving the game ending in a draw which most commentators feel was a fair result.
Fans are already looking forward to the replay which has been scheduled for Croke Park on Saturday September 27th at 5pm.
This is the third year in a row that the Hurling final has gone to a replay.
The scramble for tickets, travel and accommodation starts again tomorrow. After today’s fascinating clash which was broadcast on both RTE and Sky, demand for tickets could be huge and accommodation is likely to be at a premium, so anybody who is planning to stay overnight should book their accommodation early.
